Frequently Asked Questions

If you don’t find an answer to your question here, please contact us!

How long do quilts take to complete?

+

Quilts take from 4 – 8 weeks depending on the complexity, size of quilt, and number of garments to be included.  Work will begin on your quilt as soon as we receive your materials and deposit.

Do I have to meet with you in person to order my quilt?

+

We can easily communicate via phone and email. You can send your fabric and materials to us, and once they have arrived, we can consult by phone or email. If we have questions during the quilt design or construction phase, we will contact you.

Can I see my quilt as it is being designed and constructed?

+

Yes, visit our studio in Wisconsin to see your quilt as it is constructed, or we can email photos to you. We can make small changes during the design phase per your preferences.

Can I place my order on-line?

+

Yes, simply print the order form, fill it out and email it to us as a pdf attachment.  We can discuss details and questions by email or phone.  Your down-payment can be made via Zelle, or a personal check included with materials sent to us.

How much do quilts cost?

Our quilts range from $45 for a Kinder Square to $1200. You will receive a cost estimate when you submit your order form.

Do you offer any type of guarantee?

We hope that by working closely with you, your quilt is designed and constructed to your satisfaction. There are no refunds or returns on custom quilts. We will be happy to make repairs within 30 days of receipt by client.

How do I decide on the size of my quilt?

Quilt measurements are listed on the order form. These are standard sizes that can be customized to your needs. You can make sure the quilt is the right size by measuring your bed or giving us the measurements of a quilt you have and use.

How do I best use my quilt?

People like to cuddle with lap size quilts, and with larger quilts, people like to use them as bed quilts or bedspreads. Any quilt can be used as a wall hanging, with a hanging sleeve sewn onto the quilt back. No matter where your quilt is used, it’s strongly recommended to keep it out of direct sunlight.

Are quilts washable?

Complete washing and cleaning instructions are included with each quilt. Most quilts are washable with a sheet of Shout® Color Catcher and cold water.

What kind of clothing and fabric do I send to be included in my Memorial Quilt?

It is possible to include all types of fabric from silk tie to t-shirt to denim work pants to flannel shirts in your Memorial Quilt. If the quilt will be used and washed frequently, select fabrics and clothing that can withstand frequent washings. If the quilt will be hung or displayed, more delicate fabrics can be used.

Is there any type of item NOT suited for inclusion in a Memorial Quilt?

Almost any fabric can be incorporated into a quilt. Wall hangings offer the greatest possibility for including unusual items like buttons, medals and ribbons.

How many items do I send?

Once you have decided on the finished size of your quilt, try laying your shirts and garments out. If using both sides of a t-shirt, this will count as 2 shirts; allow for this in your layout. When you are boxing up your shirts, indicate with a safety pin or post-it note which are the most important garments and we will work to keep them centrally positioned.

How do I choose what type of quilting is best for my quilt?

Most of our quilts are long-arm quilted in an overall quilting pattern of your choosing. When we are discussing your quilt, I’ll give you several quilting templates to choose from. Custom Quilting is available as an upgrade.

What materials do I supply?

You supply your cleaned and laundered shirts and garments. We provide 100% cotton fabric for the quilt back, border and binding. Stabilizer for t-shirts and quilt batting are also included in your price. Special requests for different fabric will be accommodated as an upgrade.

Will I get the leftover fabric back?

If requested, we can send you the left-over scraps along with your finished quilt.

Can I use denim in my quilt?

Yes, denim can be included. If the denim is heavy weight, we use smaller pieces of it.

Should I cut the pieces of clothing or t-shirts before sending?

NO! Please do not cut any of your shirts! We will take care of all cutting and stabilizing of your shirts.

Can I choose a color scheme for the quilt?

Yes! We can customize the cotton fabric used in quilt back, border and binding to your preferences.

How do I choose a backing or border fabric?

Your color preferences and the predominant color of the quilt pieces will determine the color and print of the fabric used.

Can I do photo transfers myself and send them to you?

Several products are available for you to transfer your photos to fabric. You may include your fabric photo with your materials as you send them in.

Can I send photos to you for transfer?

Yes, we will do the transfer to white 100% cotton fabric for you, see Order Form for price.

How should I send you my digital files and in what format?

A resolution of at least 600 DPI jpeg is recommended. OR you can mail actual photos to us; we will scan them and return the originals to you.

B & W or color?

Either works well. B & W lends a historic feel, color adds the touch of today.
